Clients deploy Marketlink IP 2 handlers

During 2007 Reuters released an entirely new contributions protocol: Reuters Marketlink IP V2.0. (MLIP 2)

This was designed to improve the speed and effectiveness of data being contributed to Reuters while simplifying the architecture and configuration. The most significant change was the improvement in message rates to a maximum of 750 messages/second – this of course depends on Reuters provisioning that capability.

So working closely with Reuters, Gissing developed the first available third-party interface for this new protocol.

The new handler, known as the Reuters Marketlink 2.0 Output Handler (or MLIP2O) is an entirely new development for what is in essence an entirely new protocol. It’s capable of handling the full message rate (and higher, should Reuters decide to increase the message rate further) in both verbose and laconic modes. It handles error messages and can even load balance across multiple MLIP 2 connections.

This protocol and handler should be of interest to firms contributing substantial volumes of data to Reuters that are currently using Marketlink IP 1 or 1.5.

In order to make it attractive for those with more modest contribution volumes, it’s available in versions capable of handling 30, 60, 100, 200 and 400 messages per second as well as an “unlimited” version – which is of course constrained only by the maximum message rate permitted by Reuters.

Since this is a new protocol, it’s a new handler and is not available as an upgrade from existing Gissing Marketlink IP 1 (MKLO) handlers, but you can upgrade from Marketlink IP 1.5 handlers, since the protocol is essentially an enhanced version. However even if an upgrade is not available, it is possible to replace one or more existing MKLO handlers and transfer any remaining support period as a credit towards support of the new handler.

This new handler is already deployed at two major investment banks, and several more are currently running trials.

Gissing MLIP2O is available immediately for Gissing ConteX MCS R3 installations, and will be available with the initial release of Gissing ConteX MCS 4.0 in April 2008.
