Support for Reuters MLIP 2.0 protocol available immediately
With the Release of Gissing ConteX MCS 3.74, Gissing now fully supports Reuters’ new contribution protocol: Marketlink IP 2.0 (MLIP2). This is a completely new protocol available from Reuters that enables much greater volumes of contributions over a single connection than previous Marketlink IP implementations.MLIP2 is available from Reuters as a fault-tolerant pair of connections that can be configured either as live-live or live-standby.
The development team at Gissing has designed and built a completely new output handler for MLIP2 that supports both configurations of MLIP2, making the fault tolerance provided by Gissing ConteX MCS even more resilient, enabling almost instantaneous recovery from line failure.
Martin Crocombe, Reuters’ Global Contributions Product Manager, welcomed the availability of this new handler, saying, “As a key player in the contributions marketplace, we are delighted that Gissing Software has added support for Reuters' Marketlink IP version 2.0 to its suite of ConteX handlers. This provides an opportunity for Gissing's clients to take advantage of the improved performance and throughput that Marketlink IP 2.0 offers contributors.””.
Since the handler for this new protocol is completely new, it will be available to clients as a new handler. If you have already licensed our MLIP 1.5 handler then you are entitled to upgrade to the new MLIP2 handler under the compatibility maintenance clause in our license agreement. The MLIP 1.5 handler will be withdrawn with immediate effect. Existing users of our MLIP 1.5 handler with a current support and maintenance contract should contact either Gissing support or their Gissing representative to arrange their free upgrade. There is no upgrade available from MLIP 1.0 or from a Marketlink serial handler. We will continue to deliver and support the MLIP 1.0 handler for those clients that require it.
However the massive increase in throughput compared to MLIP 1.0, almost 10 times more data per second should make this very attractive. We have introduced a novel new server-based throughput licensing scheme with the MLIP2 handler. This enables clients with low data volumes to switch to the new protocol at a similar cost to the existing MLIP 1.0 handler, while those with massive data volumes can deploy multiple MLIP2 handlers on a single Gissing ConteX MCS server without any additional cost for the additional handlers.
Please contact your Gissing representative for further details of MLIP2 handler pricing.
