Gissing RealtimeXL 2.1 to ship in June

As you will know if you’ve read any of our previous newsletters, Gissing RealtimeXL is a real-time add-in for Microsoft Excel that, when used with Microsoft Office XP (2002) or later automatically takes advantage of the Microsoft Real Time Data (RTD) functionality to deliver market data from Reuters and Bloomberg in real-time into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application.

Gissing RealtimeXL has four major advantages. The value of each will depend on your existing issues and future requirements:

  1. It’s data agnostic. It will provide real-time data from both Reuters and Bloomberg into the same spreadsheet simultaneously.
  2. Saves money. Unless you get your existing real-time add-on included in a bigger package, Gissing RealtimeXL can cost as little as half of our competitor’s products. And we have a view-only version to enable you to save even more money where individual users require only subscription capability.
  3. Performance. Our clients tell us that in their tests Gissing RealtimeXL performs up to 6 times faster than its major competitor at subscription and 4 times faster at contribution. We are in the process of validating these figures in a controlled environment; we hope to publish this data in the next newsletter. Obviously the actual performance improvement you will see will depend on your particular circumstances, application and environment. The only way to find out is to try it!
  4. Scalability. Our clients tell us that our major competitor’s spreadsheet add-in starts to creak and groan when trying to deal with large numbers of instruments. They also tell us that Gissing RealtimeXL can handle the same applications much more easily. There have been situations where, after we’ve converted an existing application to run with Gissing RealtimeXL, our client didn’t believe that it had run because it executed so quickly! We managed to prove that it had in fact run, correctly, in a fraction of the time of his existing sheet.

Version 2.1 of Gissing RealtimeXL is about to be released. Its major enhancements include:

  • Contribution may now be configured to support fault-tolerant implementations of Gissing ConteX MCS
  • Even faster subscription when using Microsoft RTD
  • Reduced CPU usage when using Microsoft RTD
  • Improved administration interface to simplify installation and configuration
  • Performance improvement for SSL contributions
  • Improved converter support for migration of real-time functions from existing applications built with Reuters PowerPlus Pro, Bloomberg’s BLP and DDE real-time add-in and DOT RttMulti.
