Gissing Software joins FISD/SIIA; participates in MiFID JWG

We’re delighted to announce that Gissing Software has become a corporate member of the Financial Information Services Division (FISD) of the Software & Information Industry Association. (SIIA).

The FISD provides a neutral business forum for all kinds of participating organisations in the financial services industry to address and resolve business and technical issues related to the distribution, management, administration and use of market data.

FISD was founded in 1985, and is governed by a 27-member Executive Committee consisting of equal numbers of exchanges, vendors and market data user firms. Our own Kevin Iraca, Managing Director, Gissing Software, Inc, sat on the Executive Committee (representing Bloomberg) from June 2002-August 2005.

Not only does membership of FISD enable Gissing Software to participate in and contribute to discussions on topics relevant to the industry, it also enables it to participate in another organisation very close to home: the MiFID Joint Working Group (JWG).

The JWG has been created by four major industry organisations: FIX Protocol Ltd, ISITC Europe, The Reference Data User Group and FISD. The JWG is attempting to address the technology-related compliance requirements created by the European Union Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID).

Gissing Software is at the leading edge of provision of technology necessary to comply with MiFID, and sees participation in the MiFID JWG as vital to the interests of the company and, more importantly, its customers. Although participation in the meetings, and all the related work outside the meetings, represents a significant commitment for the senior team members, we see it as a valuable use of our time, and a particularly relevant contribution of our expertise.

Chris PicklesChris Pickles, (right) member of the Executive Committee of FISD and Chair of the MiFID JWG said, "I'm very pleased that Gissing Software has joined the FISD and is now an active participant in the MiFID JWG. Gissing's expertise in contributions is highly relevant to all of our deliberations on real-time market data and standard protocols, and their participation will add practical value to our work going forward."

Mike Vieyra, Gissing Software’s CEO commented, “It’s a big commitment in time and effort for us, but MiFID is likely to be the biggest thing to hit the European Financial Services industry for a decade. Compliance with MiFID will involve substantial contribution of data by many organisations, and contribution software is what we do. If we can help the industry as a whole and our customers in particular then I see it as our obligation to do so.”
