Gissing's Sales Director reports on City IT 2005

Peter McKenna, Gissing’s Sales Director, and Nick Braybrooke, Gissing’s RealtimeXL Product Manager recently took part in CITY IT - The Financial Services Technology Forum on P&O's luxury cruise liner Aurora. While the Aurora steamed around the English Channel, the Gissing Software team presented the company’s solutions to more than fifty financial institutions in one-on-one meetings.

The delegates on board were mainly senior IT and operations management executives from a wide variety of City institutions. Gissing Software is already well known as a leader in market data contribution management solutions with Gissing ConteX MCS, but many of the delegates were particularly interested in the award winning Gissing RealtimeXL product.

Peter McKenna commented, “Virtually everyone we met explained that Microsoft Excel is ubiquitous within their organisation. It seems that Excel is becoming increasingly relied upon for large scale computations at the desktop in many areas of the business.” From Peter’s and Nick’s conversations it appears that Excel is being used in specialist trading applications, analytics, pricing, and increasingly in STP data bridging where it provides data monitoring for middle and back office functions.

Delegates showed substantial interest in Gissing RealtimeXL's capability to improve speed and efficiency in large scale data subscription and contribution using Microsoft Excel. City IT 2005The general consensus was that both volume and breadth of financial instruments is continuing to increase in today’s trading strategies. The ability to cope with this spreadsheet challenge is critical to the performance of many front and middle office operations. McKenna said, “We are delighted with the contacts we’ve made and the conversations we had – it was hard work but well worthwhile. We will be continuing discussions with the CITY IT delegates we met once we have got used to being on shore again!”

McKenna confirmed that he’s rebooked for Gissing Software to attend CITY IT next year, despite it meaning that he has to give up a weekend with the family. He said, “You just don’t get the opportunity to meet so many decision-makers in one place at any other event.”

Gissing RealtimeXL connects to both Reuters RMDS and the Bloomberg API. It comes complete with a rich financial functions library and migration tools to assist in converting existing real-time spreadsheets to Gissing RealtimeXL. The Gissing RealtimeXL application interface enabling bespoke application development using Microsoft COM and .NET will be available soon.
