Gissing RealtimeXL wins “Banker” Award; now deployed at three major European banks
Having been launched at the DWT events in the UK and US earlier in the year, Gissing RealtimeXL won the prestigious Banker Technology Award 2005 for Front Office Application of the Year.
Dan Barnes, technology editor of The Banker said, “…The system’s flexibility achieved a much needed reduction in cost (halving spreadsheet costs in some cases) and… reduced CPU usage whilst increasing reliability.”

Since then the team at Gissing Software has installed Gissing RealtimeXL at major banks in the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. One of these installations will ultimately be for over 3,500 licenses of RealtimeXL – we hope to bring you a detailed user story in a future edition of Gissing Software Newsletter. Further installations are scheduled for the coming weeks.
Gissing RealtimeXL is a add-on product for Microsoft Excel that retrieves real-time data from market data vendors; the basic license includes connectivity for both Reuters and Bloomberg, connections to other market data vendors will be available in the future at additional cost.
Users develop their own spreadsheet applications or convert those they’ve already developed for use in previous generation real-time spreadsheets; Gissing has developed a conversion tool for spreadsheet applications in Reuters PowerPlus Pro which has been tested extensively with real user applications; this is made available free of charge as part of the product installation.
Gissing RealtimeXL is available in three versions:
- View – enables users to read existing spreadsheet applications, and view real-time data.
- Professional – enables users not only to read existing applications but also to develop new ones using the library of real-time functions.
- Plus – this has the same functionality as Professional together with a library of advanced financial analytical functions licensed from specialist software developers Cygnus Europe Ltd.
